Today a quick tutorial, starting with a fundamental truth about a political campaign. Your story is your unique selling proposition—the element of your campaign message that makes you different than all the other candidates.
Your narrative is a crucial element of your campaign message, for it is through your story that you let voters know your fundamental beliefs and core convictions. If voters don’t know what makes you tick, they will never trust you to govern on their behalf.
Every good story has a beginning, a threat (a villain or an evil), a victim, a hero, and a resolution. Good stories change the way people feel, the way they behave, the way they think.
There is another often ignored secret about telling your story.
Speak to hearts, not heads. Voters are much more likely to remember you, and like you if your story triggers one of the seven human emotions: Anger. Sadness. Happiness. Fear. Surprise. Disgust. Contempt.
