Discovering Your Unique Talent to Change the Course of Human Destiny.

Keynote Presentation by Political Speaker Jay Townsend

Nobody has traveled your journey. Nobody has your story. Nobody has your eyes or your voice. Nobody is as fitted as you to tell your story, to speak your truth, to write your book, to make your mark, or to better the lives of others in the unique way that only you can.

Jay Townsend’s keynote weaves inspirational stories of unsung heroes who have changed the course of human destiny; stories that touch and inspire others to discover and recognize their own special talents, gifts and capacity to improve lives.

“I am in the business of changing lives,” says Jay, “by changing the way people think and the way they feel about themselves. I help people discover their hidden talents, and inspire the self-confidence required to advance their mission and live their passion.”

Jay is known for his exceptional ability to paint pictures with words, to summon the unconscious mind of his audience and engage the imagination of his listeners. He has spoken on politics, policy and history at the U.S. Military Academy, the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, scores of political gatherings, colleges, universities and as a frequent guest on FOX News.

He has worked as a speech coach, speechwriter and communications consultant in four different Presidential campaigns, dozens of U.S. Senate, Gubernatorial and Congressional races and coached more than 300 political candidates during his 30 year career as a communications coach.

He has thrice won national awards–Best Television commercial produced for a gubernatorial candidate; Best Persuasion Mail produced in a Presidential Campaign; and Best Newspaper Ad produced in a political campaign. He was the Republican-Conservative Party nominee for United States Senate in New York in 2010, and garnered 1.5 million votes in his race against Senator Charles Schumer.

Will 2014 be a good year for Republicans to run for office?

The answer is yes and here’s why.

Obamacare is not working. Even Democrats who voted for it are calling it a train wreck. Insurance rates are skyrocketing. Employers are and will continue going into revolt about the cost. The bills are coming due and taxes to pay for it are going up.

We have not fully recovered from the recession of 2008 and the President is out of excuses.

Energy costs are rising, a direct result of Mr. Obama’s anti-energy policies.

Nobody believes the President or democrats in Congress care about reducing the deficit and stemming the tsunami of red ink that threatens to drown the next generation. The only solution Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and the President are willing to offer is yet another tax increase.

There are also historic reasons why 2014 should be a good year for Republicans. We’ll be six years into Obama rule, and the party which controls the White House historically loses seats in the second midterm election.

So if you are thinking about running, it looks like 2014 is going to be a good year.

That said, voters will expect and demand more than anti-Obama rhetoric. If you plan to run, be prepared to tell people what you would do and be prepared to explain why the policies you offer are better than what we have.

I’ll soon be posting more videos on the 2014 environment, issues that work to our advantage, and how to refute the coming democratic offensive. So stay tuned. If you have not already, please sign up for my newsletter. And by all means feel free to share this video with anyone who might need to see it.

“A culture that is not horrified by this is dead.”

So said Leon Kass in a recent Wall Street Journal interview published April 19, 2013.

He was not talking about the Boston bombings.

It was a reference to what happened inside a Philadelphia abortion clinic run by Kermit Gosnell, charged with butchering and murdering several infants who survived late term abortions he performed.

There was once a great Senator from New York who dared to speak an ugly truth when he called late term abortions “infanticide.” I am sure Pat Moynihan would have some choice words to say about Gosnell if he were alive to say it, and I’ve no doubt that he’d have some sharp words about the state of our culture and what he used to call “defining deviancy down.” Moynihan was never afraid to speak truth.

We have no trouble expressing our outrage about a couple of deranged terrorists who murdered three innocents in Boston. The President and the Vice-President both made trips to Boston to place salve on a nasty wound.

Yet about the tragedy in Philadelphia they have offered only stoned silence.

Seven innocent children were murdered by a terrorist on American soil. That no high ranking official, Senator or Member of Congress has gone to Philadelphia to hold a candlelight vigil…that neither the President nor the Vice-President has uttered a word about the revolting and hideous violence of Mr. Gosnell says a lot about the state of American culture.

We’ve grown dangerously numb to the deviancy before us. That is a topic that deserves a lot more discussion.

What the hell is the thinking?

Karl Rove announces that he intends to become more involved in Republican primary contests and the tea party distributes an email of The Architect dressed in a Nazi uniform.

Marco Rubio holds a fundraiser in Manhattan and Republican Congressman Peter King blows a gasket because… Rubio had the audacity to vote against the pork-laden Hurricane Relief Bill.

Republican Eric Cantor dares to tell the Republican caucus that killing the Violence Against Women Act won’t do the Republican brand any good. And conservative radio talk man Mark Levin suggests that Cantor be ridden out of the Republican Party.

CPAC decides to make an example of Chris Christie…by letting the world know that he won’t be invited to speak at CPAC this year. Was it because 1) he was nice to Obama when New Jersey was drowning, or 2) he damned the House for refusing to vote on a Relief Bill, or 3) he dared to say something critical of an over-the-top NRA ad that went after Obama’s daughters?

The Club for Growth announces their latest initiative—called “Primary my Congressman.” Let’s knock off a few Republicans who (oh the horror) dared to let their Club for Growth scorecard drop below 75%.

My question: Can a few of the adults in the room start acting like grownups? If not, can some of the adults who are not in the room suggest that those who are in the room start acting like grownups?

I’ll give two Dillybars to the first man or woman inside the beltway, or even one of those wise talking heads on FOX, who is willing to say that expanding the herd right now is more important than culling the pasture of those who are less than pure.

Shortly after I moved to New York in the early 1980’s, transit workers threatened a strike if then Mayor Koch refused to go along with what he considered outrageous demands on a depleted city treasury. The city and it’s mass transit dependent public would, per the union bosses, face an apocalypse. Koch refused to budge. Despite the inconvenience of walking, doing without buses, subways, suburban trains, and enduring long commutes stuck in endless traffic jams, the public applauded Koch’s resolve, feistiness, and his determination to bend a union to his will. Koch won. The city survived. And some union bosses learned that it was useless to thug the Mayor.

A few years ago, my local school board demanded a 12% property tax hike. The School Board President warned that if the public dared vote down the budget, gone would be the athletic department and all afterschool activities. And just to put icing on the cake, he allowed that no school property would be available for public use after school hours. The voters answered by voting down his budget 2-1. The schools survived, as did the athletic programs and afterschool activities. The school board President learned it was useless to thug the taxpayers.

The President now demands the GOP raise taxes again, on top of the tax increase it granted the President last January. He warns that apocalypse will come if the federal government is forced to live with 2% less over the next decade (out of $46 trillion in projected spending) — kids will starve, teachers will die, grandma will freeze, planes will crash, and hardened criminals will roam streets and playgrounds stealing candy from the mouths of babes. Of course, women, children and minorities will be especially hard hit.

Message to the GOP. Stand Your Ground. Don’t Back Down. You’ve been thugged twice already and if it happens a third time those that voted for you will begin to wonder the point of having you in the Majority.

Mayor Bloomberg just dumped $2 million through his PAC to defeat a pro-2nd amendment candidate in a Chicago Congressional race. Not a peep out of the New York Times about how a billionaire’s money was used to throw an election thousands of miles from New York. How might the Times have reacted had the Koch Brothers dropped $2 million to elect a pro-gun candidate in a New York City Congressional race? Just Asking.

Governor Cuomo now says he must amend the gun control bill he rammed through the New York legislature because…the “law, as written, could be interpreted to apply even to weapons modified to use as entertainment props.” Apparently, the hastily written bill failed to accommodate the movie industry which needs the props to glorify the violence that inspires kooks to pick up guns and kill kids. Might we be better off asking Hollywood to compromise on its first amendment right? Just Asking.

And one more “Just Asking.”

This is a direct quote from Governor Andrew Cuomo post Hurricane Sandy. What the hell does this mean? Just Asking.

“I think this is the worst and I was appalled and when I was at HUD I handled storms and I learned a great deal and I saw we were prepared and I am relieved and I will work hard and I need you to know global warming is what I told you it was.”

In the span of 30 days, Obama embarrassed and intimidated the GOP into a retreat that has conservatives wondering the point of having a Republican Congress.

For good reason. Nearly all House Republicans signed a no new taxes pledge. The GOP controlled Congress voted to raise tax rates.

Without much of a peep, the GOP controlled Congress voted to raise the debt ceiling without any serious negotiation over spending limits, entitlement reform or any kind of spending restraint. We are left to wonder why a President who won’t negotiate today over spending restraint is going to do it in May after the Senate has passed a budget.

Coming? Obama will try to wedge the GOP House over gun control. Obama will try to wedge the GOP house over immigration, the environment, and even more taxes, which will come disguised as tax reform. And if the GOP refuses to roll, he will barnstorm the country asking citizens to demand the Congress bend to his will as he did in December and January.

The GOP now faces a stark choice, and one that will determine which party controls the Congress after the midterm elections in 2014. A GOP that refuses to stand for something will cease to stand for anything. Many more white flags of surrender and the GOP base will sit on its hands in the next election, which is exactly what the President wants it to do.

If there was any doubt about the real Obama, it was on full display as he uttered his inaugural address.

He does not give a damn about the deficit. Entitlement reform is not going to be put on the table, nor will he lead any negotiation to save Medicare from bankruptcy or Social Security from insolvency. The trillion dollar deficits will continue, left for his successor and future generations to resolve and pay. Never mind that entitlements and interest payments will soon consume 80% of the federal budget, reducing the amount of money available for defense, education, law enforcement, homeland security, medical research, highways, and a lot of other sacred cows.

The talk of climate change is a code word for jacking the price of fossil fuels. Immigration reform will include blanket amnesty. “Revamping” the tax code means higher taxes. “Equality” shall come to mean more than equal opportunity. It shall now mean equality of results. The era is big government is back and will be around for the next four years.

Get used to the straw men. We saw several in his address, which blessedly lasted less than 30 minutes. There are: 1. those who think we have to make a choice between feeding grandma and starving babies. 2. those who think freedom is only for the lucky and the few. 3. those who think Medicare and Social Security “saps” our initiative. 4. those who believe that the 80 year old widow who collects a social security check is a ‘taker.’ 5. those who believe it is America’s destiny to forever be at war.

I’ve worked for public figures for 30 years. I’ve never met a public figure who believes any of the aforementioned.

The unnecessarily acerbic and combative tone of his language suggests how little he thinks of those who voted for his opponent, or the GOP Congress this country elected. Obama intends to move a center right country left. There is not going to be any compromise. There will be no grand bargains designed to stop the coming train wreck.

I never thought I’d miss Bill Clinton.

“Democrats want to preserve the legacy of the New Deal and the Great Society — Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid — and add to them what every other advanced country has: a more or less universal guarantee of essential health care. Republicans want to roll all of that back, making room for drastically lower taxes on the wealthy. Yes, it’s essentially a class war.” Paul Krugman, NY Times Jan 3, 2013

“If the Republicans think that I will finish the job of deficit reduction through spending cuts alone, that’s not how it’s going to work.” President Obama Dec 31, 2012

“Democrats say they want to raise as much as $1 trillion in new revenues through tax reform later this year to balance Republican demands to slash mandatory spending.” The Hill Jan 7, 2013

In other words, the “fiscal cliff” fight isn’t over. It’s just beginning. Senator McConnell and Speak Boehner may think we are done talking about taxes, but the President, his chief cheerleader at the New York Times and Congressional Democrats don’t. McConnell and Boehner may think that the Bush tax cuts have been made permanent for 98% of the American taxpayers, but the President and Congressional Democrats think otherwise. What they can’t do by raising tax rates they will try to do by limiting deductions.

And how serious is the President about reforming entitlement and reducing the growth of discretionary spending? When was the last time we heard a democrat of any stature suggest raising the Social Security retirement age, or reforming Medicare or turning Medicaid over to the states, or slowing the growth of health care, education, welfare, food stamps, subsidized housing, kid care, or aid for college students?

And will the House GOP really hold firm and refuse the raise the debt ceiling until Obama and company put serious spending reductions and reforms on the table? If the GOP could not stomach staring down Obama on the tax fight, can we really expect the GOP to stare down Obama on the debt limit? I am not holding my breath.
