Jay Townsend…Who I am
Jay Townsend has served as a speechwriter, debate coach, spokesperson, polltaker, television, print and radio advertising strategist. He has worked in four presidential campaigns, scores of U.S. Senate, Gubernatorial and Congressional races, and a myriad of County Executive, Mayoral, legislative and judicial contests. He is an advisor and consultant to public figures and is the author of two books, So You Want to Run for Public Office and The 10 Worst Mistakes Candidates Make.
Townsend has received several national awards from the American Association of Political Consultants, including the nation’s best television commercial aired in a Gubernatorial race, the best persuasion mail piece produced for a Presidential campaign, and the nation’s best newspaper ad for a candidate.
A member of the National Speakers Association, Townsend has spoken to hundreds of audiences. He has lectured on politics and political warfare at the United States Military Academy, the Marketing Research Association, the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, and numerous colleges and universities. He has been a frequent guest on FOX News.
Raised on an Indiana farm, Jay earned B.S. and M.S. degrees from Purdue University in 1976 and 1982. He lives in New York.
