Obama’s efforts to portray himself a centrist got a setback when the Washington Post revealed that White House operatives were behind the public employee riots in Wisconsin. And the left got a black eye.
People like Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker were not elected to kick the can down the road. He made no secret of his desire to tame public employee unions, or his plans to reign in public spending. In other words, he is doing what he said he was going to do. Overreach by doing away with collective bargaining? Time will tell. But when the President threw in with teachers who had abandoned their classrooms to riot in the rotunda of Wisconsin’s capital, Obama diminished his stature and gained nothing with constituencies he must have to be reelected. Instead, he demonstrated to the country at large that he is still the same the liberal voters repudiated in the election last November.
