Know your partner well before you crawl into their bed.

Yesterday Democratic polltaker Doug Schoen issued a warning to the President and other democrats about the perils of crawling into bed with Occupy Wall Street.

Indeed, there are scores of videos on the internet of protesters engaging in anti-Semitic rants.

Schoen sent his staff to poll the protesters and yesterday published the results of their work. Their values are “dangerously out of touch with the broad mass of the American people,” said Schoen, adding that the OWS crowd “comprises an unrepresentative segment of the electorate that believes in radical redistribution of wealth, civil disobedience and, in some instances, violence. Half (52%) have participated in a political movement before, virtually all (98%) say they would support civil disobedience to achieve their goals, and nearly one-third (31%) would support violence to advance their agenda.”

There are other reasons for Obama and Democrats in Congress to be cautious in their courtship of the OWS crowd. A majority disapprove of the President’s performance. Obama received a lot of money from Wall Street contributors in 2008, far more than McCain, and Wall Street subsidized the takeover of the Senate by democrats in 2006—Democrats which helped tear down the regulatory walls that led to the housing bubble—democrats who also took the lead in bailing out Wall Street when the bubble burst.

Alliances with unknown and erratic partners can be a dangerous thing for a candidate running for public office. Voters will judge you by the company you keep.  Just ask George McGovern.
