Two weeks ago I posted a video about a candidate who became a rock star because of the way she told her story. And I received several emails from people wanting to know more… about how to write, construct and tell their own story.
Today a quick tutorial, starting with a fundamental truth about a political campaign. Your story is your unique selling proposition—the element of your campaign message that makes you different than all the other candidates.
Your narrative is a crucial element of your campaign message, for it is through your story that you let voters know your fundamental beliefs and core convictions. If voters don’t know what makes you tick, they will never trust you to govern on their behalf.
Every good story has a beginning, a threat (a villain or an evil), a victim, a hero, and a resolution. Good stories change the way people feel, the way they behave, the way they think.
There is another often ignored secret about telling your story.
Speak to hearts, not heads. Voters are much more likely to remember you, and like you if your story triggers one of the seven human emotions: Anger. Sadness. Happiness. Fear. Surprise. Disgust. Contempt.
Because I received so many emails about this subject, today I am offering something special: If you’d like to work with me on developing and telling your story, send me an email at [email protected]. Write “Help with My Story” in the subject line.
I’ll schedule a free half hour face to face meeting with you on Skype, FaceTime, or Zoom and help you get started. After that if you’d like to continue working with me we’ll discuss an arrangement that fits your budget.
My time is limited, so I can only accept the first 10 who apply. So if you are interested, please send me that email today. Write “Help with My Story” in the subject line and send it to [email protected].

How to win an election:
Running for office and knowing how to win an election is a challenge, especially for first time political candidates just learning how to run for office. Discerning the fine points of how to campaign, raise political contributions, and execute a political campaign strategy often requires the help of someone who has served as a political strategist or who has experience as a political consultant.
