How to Raise Money in a Political Campaign: Large and Celebrity Events

If you are active in politics or have ever volunteered in a campaign, you’ve probably been to one.
A candidate will use a celebrity as a draw to a fundraising event; a celebrity that people will pay good money to see or meet. A prominent athlete. A renowned musician or singer. A TV personality. An actor. An author. Even a prominent political figure.
If you know anybody who fits that category, ask them to make an appearance at one of your fundraising events.
Once you have a commitment, find a suitable location, set the ticket price and advertise the event to your email list, through social media and internet ads. Offer something extra for a premium priced ticket. A picture with the celebrity. An autographed book. A pre-event cocktail party with the celebrity.
I’ve seen candidates raise a small fortune with these kinds of events, including a U.S. Senator who got Fleetwood Mac to do a concert for him. They sold 45,000 tickets.
What if you don’t know a celebrity? You can still do a large event. Hire a band, have some volunteers cook hot dogs and chili and invite people to come to your dog and bean rally.
